Finished Basements Plus Case Studies: Franklin, MI Basement Remodel Creates Open Floor Plan

Friday, April 21st, 2017 by Adam Jensen

Challenge

This basement started out as a partially finished space with a poor layout that created a closed-off feel. The homeowners were looking for a space that they could use for entertaining, hosting family get-togethers, and as a place for visiting family and friends to have their own space. The original floor plan of this basement was not designed to optimize the available space for this family.

Solution

By reworking the floor plan, this basement is now a place that this family can use for any occasion. We opened up the wall connecting to the staircase to create a much more open concept design, while also adding an open rail design to the staircase. This allows the space to feel much larger. Keeping the space as open as possible helps keep the basement bright and open for entertaining. The addition of a home office, bedroom, playroom, bathroom, and home bar, this lower level is now the perfect place for this family.
