What to Expect When You Work With Basements Plus

Before you commit to a basement project, you should understand how the work will be planned, managed and completed. This page walks you through our basement finishing and waterproofing process, including who handles each stage and what you can expect along the way.

7-stage process

Our 7-Stage Basement Finishing & Waterproofing Process

After more than 20 years and 5,000 basement projects, we have learned where projects can stall and which decisions need to be made early. That experience shaped our seven-stage process, designed to keep your basement finishing or waterproofing project organized from the initial consultation through completion and warranty.

Step 01

Your 90-Minute In-Home Basement Consultation

We meet at your home to understand your goals, answer your questions, and discuss your budget and options.

Finishing: We take measurements and explore layouts and design ideas based on how you want to use your basement.

Waterproofing: We inspect the interior and exterior of your home, identify the source of the water problem, and explain what we find.

Step 02

Plan Review & Proposal

You review the proposed work and detailed pricing before deciding to move forward.

Finishing: We present 2D plans and 3D renderings so you can see how your basement will look and function.

Waterproofing: We provide a written scope of work outlining the recommended repairs, where they will be installed, and what they will cost.

Step 03

Selection & Pre-Construction Planning

Once you approve the proposal, we organize the materials, permits, trades, and other details needed before work begins.

Finishing: We help you choose flooring, cabinetry, fixtures, colors, and finishes, then place your material orders.

Waterproofing: We order the specified materials, schedule crews and trades, and apply for all necessary permits.

Step 04

Measure & Confirm

Before work begins, we confirm the remaining details, start date and what you can expect during the project.

Finishing: Your project manager will confirm measurements and material selections with you during an on-site meeting at your home.

Waterproofing: One week before work begins, we call to confirm your start date, review the full scope of work and explain what to expect.

Step 05

Project Preparation

Before work begins, your crew reviews the scope, organizes the materials and protects the floors and work areas. This preparation gives the project a clean, efficient start.

Finishing: Your crew holds a pre-construction meeting, materials are delivered, and floor and dust protection is put in place throughout the work area.

You are kept informed throughout the work while your project-lead manages the crew, schedule, and quality.

Finishing:  Your dedicated project manager oversees construction and is your direct contact for questions.

Waterproofing: Your foreman oversees installation and is your direct contact for questions.

Step 07

Service & Warranty

When the work is complete, we review the finished project with you, answer any remaining questions, and explain your warranty coverage. If a covered concern comes up later, our dedicated warranty coordinator is here to help.

Finishing: Your project is backed by our Limited Lifetime Workmanship Warranty for as long as you own your home.

Waterproofing: Qualifying full-perimeter systems include a Transferable Lifetime Warranty that stays with the home if you sell.

Your Home Is Protected While We Work

Construction can be disruptive, but the rest of your home should not be left unprotected. We take steps to control dust, protect floors, and keep the work area orderly from the first day through final cleanup.

  • We protect flooring from the entry door to the basement, cover carpeted stairs, and install dust barriers before work begins.
  • Our crews arrive on time with the materials and equipment needed for the scheduled work.
  • On finishing projects, cleanup crews remove debris and sweep the area at key stages. Waterproofing crews tidy the work area daily and complete a final cleanup when installation is finished.
  • And yes, we will probably make friends with your pets along the way.

Every Step matters

What Happens When a Basement Project Step is Skipped

Starting work before the plan is complete can lead to:

  • Project delays: Work can stall while unanswered questions, selections, or changes are resolved.
  • Unnecessary rework: Decisions made during construction may require completed work to be changed or done again.
  • Material problems: Missing or incorrect selections can delay orders, deliveries, and scheduled work.
  • Unexpected costs: Changes to an incomplete scope can add labor, materials, and time to the project.
  • More frustration: Unclear plans create confusion for the homeowner, project manager, and crews.

Our goal is to have 99% of the decisions made before work begins. Finalizing the scope, materials, selections, and schedule upfront helps your project move forward with fewer delays, changes, and surprises.
